With the existence of artificial intelligence such as DALL.E 2 and Stable Diffusion, unoriginal images can be generated as easily as inserting long text into a web page. This creates a big issue where defamation can be spread through pictures that look realistic. At Adobe MAX 2022, Leica and Nikon confirmed they will support the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) standard, which is Adobe's Content Authenticity Initiative, on their camera releases.
Initially the feature of placing digital proofs on photos will be supported on Leica M11 and Nikon Z9 cameras. Cryptographic technology is used to embed digital information in every picture taken by both cameras. If an image is manipulated, the embedded meta data will change making it easier for professionals to identify it as a fake image.
The first C2PA standard was published last January with the support of Microsoft, BBCC, ARM, Intel, TruePic and Twitter.
