Honor has today launched their second foldable screen device for 2022. Last January they introduced the Honor Magic V, just now the new generation was introduced which is the Honor Magic Vs.
This device will compete with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4, which is the fairest competitor in the market right now which is a foldable screen device with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip.
Honor Magic Vs uses a dual screen design like Samsung and Magic V, which is a 6.45-inch OLED FHD+ 2560×1080 pixel outer screen with 120Hz refresh rate support paired with a 7.9-inch OLED inner screen with a 2272×1984 pixel resolution that supports 90Hz refresh rate . As said earlier, the processing chip is Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 which is a fairly powerful Android device chip. A bit disappointing it doesn't use the newer Snapdragion 8 Gen 2 chip.
For memory Honor offers a choice of 8GB or 12GB of RAM along with 256GB or 512GB of internal storage. The battery of the device is 5000mAh, bigger than before which used a 4750mAh battery. The charging power is 66W Honor SuperCharge which is faster than Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4. No wireless charging support is provided and limited to wired only.
For the camera, the Honor Magic Vs uses a tri-camera configuration of 54MP Sony IMX800 wide-angle, 50MP ultra-wide-angle and 8MP telephoto 3x optical zoom along with a 16MP selfie camera on the outside. The selfie camera inside is the same which is 16MP. The device runs MagicOS 7 based on Android 13. The security system is still the same which is the fingerprint scanner on the side along with the power button.
In terms of design, Honor offers a thinner design that looks more premium than before. It can also be folded flat because it uses a new hinge system they call Super-light Gearless Hinge. The device also supports the use of a stylus for writing purposes like Samsung with the S Pen.
For the audio system, Honor Magic Vs uses IMAX Enhanced symmetrical type stereo speakers, also has three voice focusing microphones and speakers tuned with DTS: X Ultra system as found on Honor Magic4 Pro. In MagicOS 7, Honor offers several multi-tasking features and the convenience of using a large and foldable screen such as Smart Multi-Window, App Extender, One Swipe Split, Adaptive Screen Rotate, Dual-View Photo Edit and more.
The selling price of Honor Magic Vs is RMB7,499 (~RM4,798) for the 8/256 GB model, RMB7,999 (~RM5,118) for the 12/256 GB and RMB8,999 (~RM5,758) for the 12/512 GB. For the version that supports the stylus it is the Honor Magic Vs Prestige Edition with 16/512 GB memory and a selling price of RMB10,888 which is (~RM6,967) For now sales are limited in China only with plans to penetrate the global market by 2023 .
