Last week one of the most interesting announcements was ChatGPT which is an artificial intelligence that produces essays based on short inputs given by users. Less than a week after being launched by OpenAI, ChatGPT has 1 million users according to a tweet sent by Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI.
ChatGPT can be used by anyone as long as they have an OpenAI account which is free. Like DALL.E 2 which produces images based on text input, ChatGPT can produce essays, poems, reviews and provide opinions on various subjects. In fact, it has the ability to suggest the writing style of prominent writers such as William Shakespeare based on the input provided.
Despite its recent launch, ChatGPT has already caused some controversy. Because of its human-like essay quality, it may be used by students to write school papers based on the given topic. This presents a challenge for the instructor to detect whether the assigned homework is actually written by the student or the work of ChatGPT.
