Apple is working on an affordable VR headset, the price is USD 3,000

The AR/VR headset from Apple still hasn't been launched even though it has been leaked for a long time. Even Apple is reportedly developing a mixed reality headset at a more affordable price.

According to reports by Bloomberg and The Information, the flagship mixed reality headset from Apple will sell for USD 3,000. The headset will incorporate dedicated VR hardware with Apple's M2 chip, the same used on the new MacBook Pro and Mac Mini.

The headset will also carry a number of sensors and cameras, complete with a built-in 4K display for each eye. However, Apple developers are also working on mixed reality headsets with simpler features and more affordable prices.

The more affordable headset will have a lower resolution screen. Apple engineers also considered using fewer cameras and slower processors to avoid the need for internal fans.

Users of this affordable headset may have to adjust the field of view manually because Apple may not include a special motor. Apple also may not equip this headset with the H2 wireless chip, which makes it more compatible with AirPods.

Because the features that are carried are not up to date with flagship headsets, this affordable mixed reality headset is likely to be priced at an affordable price. The headset will probably be released at a price of USD 1,500 or equivalent to the price of Meta's Quest Pro headset.

The inexpensive mixed reality headset is still in the early stages of development and Apple has yet to build a prototype. According to a Bloomberg report, the Technology Development Group team, which is filled with 1,000 Apple employees, is developing the two headsets, as quoted from Engadget, Thursday (19/1/2023).

Bloomberg previously reported that Apple's flagship mixed reality headset would launch this spring. Meanwhile, the cheap version will be launched in 2024 or 2025.

Due to this new strategy, Apple's plan to release lightweight AR glasses had to be postponed. The company created by Steve Jobs initially wanted to create AR glasses that could replace the iPhone, but currently development has stagnated and it is not known whether the device will be launched.
