Astronomy lovers must have been hunting for rare phenomena to observe in 2023. Among the astronomical phenomena that will be present, there will be four eclipses.
However, only three eclipses could be seen. The following is the phenomenon of the eclipse of the Sun and Moon in 2023.
Hybrid Solar Eclipse - April 20, 2023
A hybrid solar eclipse is an annular solar eclipse and a total solar eclipse that occurs at one time, the eclipse phenomenon is sequential.
Interestingly, this solar eclipse coincides with the Syawal itjimak, which marks the end of Ramadan towards the beginning of the month of Shawwal which marks the arrival of Eid al-Fitr for Muslims.
Unfortunately not all regions will experience this solar eclipse on April 20. Only parts of the Eastern region will experience it, starting at 11.47 WIT, especially in the Maluku Islands, namely the Leti Islands, Watubela Islands and Damar Islands. Besides that, it will also go through the areas of West Papua and Biak.
Penumbral Lunar Eclipse - May 6, 2023
A penumbral lunar eclipse is an eclipse when the entire moon is in the penumbra. Unlike a total lunar eclipse, a penumbral lunar eclipse still shows the moon, but the color is dimmer.
The penumbral lunar eclipse will begin on May 5 2023 at 22.14.08 WIB/23.14.08 WITA/00.14.08 WIT and the end of the eclipse will occur the next day, May 6 2023 at 02.31.40 WIB/03.31.40 WITA/04 31 40 WIT .
Annular solar eclipse - October 15, 2023
An annular solar eclipse is an eclipse that occurs when the Earth is exposed to the extension of the Moon's umbra. That is, an annular solar eclipse occurs if the length of the Moon's umbra shadow cone does not reach the Earth's surface.
Thus, what covers the Earth's surface is the extension of the Moon's umbra and the area subject to it experiences annular eclipses. This can happen when the Moon is at the aphelion point, which is the farthest point of the Moon from Earth.
However, the annular solar eclipse on October 15, 2023 cannot be witnessed. The BRIN Science Education page explains, this is because it is not exposed to the Moon's antumbra or penumbra shadows.
Partial Lunar Eclipse - October 29, 2023
A partial lunar eclipse is an eclipse when the Earth does not completely block the Moon from sunlight. The peak of this partial lunar eclipse can be observed on October 29, 2022 at 03.14 throughout.
The phenomenon of the partial lunar eclipse on 29 October 2023 can be witnessed throughout the region. Especially during the initial penumbra phase, the partial start and peak of the eclipse at around 01.01.44 WIT/02.01.44 WITA/03.01.44 WIT.
