Game Sales of The Last of Us Part 1 Soared After Showing on HBO

Sales of The Last of Us Part 1 in the UK this week shot up 238% after the TV series aired on HBO and became the game with the biggest growth in the UK.

The game, which was released in September 2022 for PS5, and is scheduled to be released on Windows in March 2023, can return to the list of best selling games in the UK or the UK Boxed Charts in 20th place.

Meanwhile, the remastered PS4 version entitled The Last of US: Remastered is in 32nd place with an increase of 322%. In early January, developer Naughty Dog said sales of all the Last of US game series had reached 37 million copies since 2013.

The TV series The Last of US has only aired two episodes (out of nine), and has received a positive response from its fans, we were quoted as saying from Game Industry, Tuesday (24/1/2023).

This increase is certainly a positive thing for Sony, namely increasing the popularity of games by bringing them into TV series (or movies). Sales of this game are also expected to increase when the PC version is released in March.

Not satisfied at this point, Sony is reportedly also preparing other games to be adapted into TV series or films, such as God of War, the Horizon series, or Ghost of Tsushima.

Another game that has shot up sales is Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. The 2017 game is in 12th place with a 103% increase, which is due to the game being discounted and priced at £11.

The number one best-selling game in the UK is Fire Emblem Engage, an RPG genre game available on the Nintendo Switch platform. The sales are indeed 31% lower than the first version (Fire Emblem Three Houses), but it is still popular.

The presence of Fire Emblem Engage shifts FIFA 23 to 2nd place after sales fell 21% compared to the previous week. Then God of War Ragnarok fell to 3rd place with a 26% decrease from last week. In 4th and 5th place are Mario Kart 8: Deluxe and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
