Last week, Apple was reported to want to produce its own screen and this will start on the Apple Watch Ultra as early as 2024. The screen it wants to use is microLED, which is a competing technology to OLED with a claimed longer lifespan and brighter brightness.
In a Bloomberg report, Apple is expected to use a microLED screen on the iPhone after a few years of using it on the Apple Watch Ultra and then may also be used on the iPad and Mac. With this move, Apple will no longer have to rely on screen manufacturers such as Samsung, LG or BOE.
For the microLED screen to be used on the iPhone, it may happen after 2024 because we previously reported that BOE will be the supplier for the iPhone 15 screen and may also be the supplier of the LTPO screen for more powerful iPhones. With this move, it makes it even easier for Apple to control what new changes it wants to offer – including avoiding any development leaks to the public.
