Egypt is famous for the history of Moses, the Pharaohs, the pyramids, the Nile and historic mummies. According to ancient Egyptian beliefs, the dead must be preserved so that they can rise again in the realm of barzakh. Egyptian historians last weekend announced the discovery of a 4,300-year-old mummy which is the oldest ever found in the country.
The mummy of this individual named Hekashepes was excavated from a 15 meter deep tunnel near the Pyramids of Saqqara. It has been preserved for over 4000 years because the limestone coffin in which it is kept has never been opened since the burial. The surface of the mummy is also covered with gold leaf.
Three more ancient tombs were also found in the same area with one of them containing the body of Meri who was on duty as Pharaoh's secret keeper.
It is hoped that this promotion will be able to attract tourists to Egypt, which has been severely affected by the pandemic. Among the things that will be done this year is the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, which will be the largest museum in the world, putting thousands of ancient Egyptian artifacts under one roof.
