Apple is very stubborn about using Lighthing charging heads on iPhones and AirPods even though they have been used without issue on iPads and MacBooks for a long time. The Lighthing era will end this year with CAD drawings of the iPhone 15 confirming USB-C will finally be used to comply with EU and Indian directives mandating its use.
The Lightning Era will also end on AirPods this year according to Ming-Chi Kuo's prediction. According to this leading analyst, the new AirPods Pro will launch towards the end of this year with USB-C. The change will only appear on the Pro version only with regular AirPods staying with Lighining with the USB-C version predicted to be offered only in 2024.
Standardizing the charging head will make it easier for users because one cable can be used for all devices. Personally we have wanted this standardization for the past four years.
