To subscribe to any service, online or offline, the process to register an account and activate the subscription is seen to be very simple. However, to terminate the subscription, sometimes the process is quite complicated.
Recently, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) wants to simplify the process of terminating subscriptions for both online and offline services. This includes subscriptions such as Netflix, Spotify, gym and so on.
The FTC's plan is to allow customers of any service to unsubscribe with the push of a button.
Not only that, they also want to set a law so that the subscription can be terminated online if the subscription is done using the same method. This is because in the United States, most companies try to make it difficult to terminate a subscription such as asking customers to use phone service and so on.
This has already started to be done in Europe, where Amazon has been instructed to simplify the process of unsubscribing from the Amazon Prime service where people who use the free subscription, pay the full annual subscription and do not remind the user about the expiry of the existing free subscription.
Although subscription services are seen as something that benefits both consumers and companies, stopping a subscription is a difficult process, especially when customers need to save money for a while.
