Samsung AR Headset Delayed Because of Apple Vision Pro

Samsung confirmed it was developing an AR augmented reality headset in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm earlier this year. But according to a SBS Biz report, its development has now been delayed for six months due to the existence of Apple Vision Pro.

Initially this headset will also be launched in early 2024. After seeing the capabilities and features of the Vision Pro, Samsung decided their headset needs to undergo a redesign process. If its features are not at least comparable to the Vision Pro it will surely embarrass not only Samsung but also Google and Qualcomm.

In the current headset market none have features comparable to the Vision Pro in terms of screen resolution, complete ecosystem integration and the use of external secondary screens. It will be interesting to see what Samsung will launch to compete with Apple in the future. The HMD Odyssey headset was previously released by Samsung in 2018 but was not sold to the open market before production was discontinued.
