Huawei and Ericsson today announced a patent collaboration covering a number of network technologies, including for 3G, 4G, and 5G networks. With this collaboration, both parties cover collaboration for infrastructure networks as well as devices for users.
It was not announced how long this patent agreement will last.
According to estimates, Huawei is said to hold around 20% of global 5G patents for now, showing the high investment by the Chinese company in strengthening its position in the communications arena. The partnership also gives Huawei access to patents it doesn't own, as well as allowing them to continue to offer infrastructure services – and perhaps even see them extended into the mobile device arena.
