Voyager 2 is a man-made object that is now about 20 billion kilometers from Earth since it was launched in 1977. Late last month, NASA announced that communication with the interstellar probe had been lost because an error in the instructions caused Voyager 2's antenna to deviate in two. degree than it should be.
NASA has made an announcement that Voyager 2 can now be contacted again after a new command was given. The control center at the Deep Space Network (DSN) located in Canberra, Australia managed to detect Voyager 2's relatively weak radio signal. Therefore, it is highly likely that this antenna probe did not deviate as far as initially thought.
A new earth-powered command signal was then beamed from earth towards Voyager 2's location. It took 18.5 hours to reach Voyager 2 before the return signal was sent back to earth which also took 18.5 hours.
The return signal was received by DSN on August 4 and based on telemetry data, Voyager 2 is still operating normally despite being out of touch for 2 weeks. Voyager and Voyager 2 have been traveling in space for over 40 years. Through recently updated software, Voyager 2 will be able to operate until 2026 before running out of energy.
Inside there is a golden plate that stores sound, as well as pictures from the earth and its coordinates in space. The saucer was produced by NASA with the help of Carl Sagan so that if it was found by aliens they could contact humans on earth.
