This year many cheered when it was heard that the iPhone 15 series would finally move to a more widely used USB-C charging port than Lightning. But this joy will be slightly tainted by the news reported by Majin Bu's X account this morning that the slow adoption of the USB-C protocol will take place.
According to him who got early access to the iPhone 15 USB-C charging cable recently, on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models the protocol used is USB 2.0. This is an old protocol with data transfer speeds limited to 480 Mbps only. Not only that, USB 2.0 only supports charging up to 20W.
It seems that only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models are predicted to use the USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 (20Gbps) or Thunderbolt 3 (40Gbps) protocol. Other rumors previously also said that on these two flagship models, charging up to 35W will be supported.
