KKR Invests RM1.8 Billion In Malaysian Undersea Cable Company OMS Group

In Southeast Asia, one of the main ways for the internet network here to be connected to the internet networks of other regions is through submarine cables developed in collaboration between certain companies.

Malaysia itself has several companies that supply this connection, and among the largest is a company called OMS Group. This telecommunications infrastructure company is a telecommunications infrastructure equipment supplier company, and part of their business is to supply and install undersea fiber optic cables.

Recently, it has been reported that KKR (Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.), a private equity company has invested USD 400 million (~RM1.9 billion), in a statement issued by these two companies.

According to Reuters, this investment is part of a strategic infrastructure investment made by KKR, also to companies such as Singapore Telecommunications and digital infrastructure company Pinnacle Towers based in the Philippines.

The investment made to OMS Group is seen to further expand the number of ships under the company, cable landing stations and also the number of ocean floor cable routes that can be connected to other regions.
