The Minister of Communications and Digital, Fahmi Fadzil has now shared that there are 34.98 million prepaid numbers active in Malaysia today. It is followed by 14.45 million postpaid numbers that are actively used today.
He shared this figure during a question and answer session involving the use of recycled numbers in Malaysia. It is said that, at the beginning of this year 2023, as many as 8.15 million numbers that are in the process of recycling await the limitation period before they can be used again.
Malaysia practices a certain number can be recycled after 6 months of not being used. It is quite a long period when compared to other countries such as Singapore which recycles after 90 days, and the United States which does it after 45 days.
Some users are also seen to be uncomfortable with the use of this recycling number. However, according to MCMC data, only 80 complaints have been received so far involving recycling numbers.
