The Prime Minister is ready to set a target to achieve 5G coverage in 80% of populated areas in Malaysia. In parallel, now the Minister of Communications and Digital has announced that there is now less than 4% left to reach the target.
According to data ending 30 November 2023, the 5G network coverage rate in Malaysia has reached 76.1%.
In addition to achieving this 5G coverage rate, at the beginning of December as well, five telecommunication companies have signed a Share Subscription Agreement, and each company will inject RM233 million into Digital Nasional Berhad.
Moving forward, after the coverage rate reaches 80%, a second company will be formed to develop the second 5G network in Malaysia.
