Users With Electricity Bills Above RM220 Per Month Will Have To Pay More Starting January 2024

The government will retarget subsidies for users in Peninsular Malaysia, for the period from 1 January to 30 June 2024. Under this new change, domestic consumers who use electricity of 600 kWh and below will continue to receive a rebate of 2 sen/kWh as it is now.

On the other hand, for domestic users who use electricity above 600 kWh to 1,500 kWh there will be no surcharge and no rebate. For those who use electricity above 1,500 kWh, the surcharge will remain at the rate of 10 cents/kWh.

With this change, for those who use electricity below 600 kWh, or have a monthly electricity bill below RM220 per month, you may not see any difference in the bill. However, if you use more than 600 kWh of electricity, you may see a difference in your bill of between RM12 and RM32 per month.

The Energy Commission stated that 85% of domestic users in the Peninsula will not be affected by the electricity tariff adjustment for the period 1 January to 30 June 2024.

To make things easier for users, the Energy Commission also asks users to use the MyElectricityBill website to check and calculate the estimated cost of the monthly electricity bill.
