Neuralink Brain Implant Has Been Installed In Humans – Can Control Devices And Computers

Elon Musk's startup Neuralink installed their first brain implant in the first human yesterday. According to Musk, preliminary results show the implant is able to detect stimulating neuronal signals. Who will be the first recipient of the human brain-computer interface technology has not yet been announced by Neuralink at the time of writing.

Musk also announced the first product released by Neuralink is Telepathy. It allows smart devices and computers to be controlled with only the user thinking. Early adopters are those who have lost the ability to control limbs. Telepathy will enable the typing process to be faster than existing systems for paralyzed people.

Neuralink is not the first company to successfully produce a human brain-computer interface device. Last year a brain implant designed by researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, and the University of California, Berkeley allowed stroke patients to speak by simply thinking. Meanwhile, BrainGPT by the University of Technology Sydney reads brain waves to type without an implant embedded directly in the brain.
