Samsung Will Offer Software Updates For 7 Years On Smartphones

The Samsung Unpacked event will take place early Thursday morning Malaysia time. The Samsung Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra smartphones will be officially launched at the event. With the event getting closer, there are rumors that Samsung will provide software update support on Galaxy phones for seven years.

At this point Samsung phones are given five years of security patch updates and four years of Android updates. Google provided update support for up to seven Android versions on last year's Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro devices. It is not known whether Samsung will simply provide a seven-year security patch or follow Google's lead.

The uproar comes after Apple overtakes Samsung as the world's largest smartphone manufacturer in 2023. Will the longer and comparable software support offerings given to the iPhone be able to entice people to buy Galaxy devices? This is just speculation and the truth will be revealed at the Unpacked event in a few days.
