BNM Takes a Serious View of the Recent Disruption of Banking Services by Two Big Banks

Bank Negara Malaysia has now released a statement, saying they are taking seriously the disruption of banking services by the two largest banking institutions recently.

As many are aware, this week, Maybank and CIMB experienced problems being accessible to users for several hours, making various transactions difficult. Not to mention that it happened during the main festival season.

Bank Negara Malaysia said it has asked the bank to explain the cause of the incident, in addition to the corrective and preventive measures implemented for the same recurring problem.

At the same time, BNM asks banks to always ensure a strong level of availability at all times. Bank Negara Malaysia also added that it will consider supervisory actions on banks that do not meet BNM's regulatory and supervisory requirements.
