Leica Leitz Phone 3 Launched With Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

Leica camera technology has been used in devices manufactured by Huawei, Xiaomi and Sharp. Last week we just reviewed the Xiaomi 14 Ultra which has interesting camera capabilities. This week the Leica Leitz Phone 3 was announced today and strangely it only uses a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip and is only for the Japanese market.

Leica Leitz Phone 3 comes with a 6.6″ WUXGA+ IGZO Pro OLED 240Hz screen, powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, 12GB RAM memory, 512GB storage and a 5000 mAh battery. This is paired with a 47.2MP 1-inch wide-angle lens and a 1.9MP depth sensor. On the front, a 12.6MP camera is used. These are all the same specifications as the Leica Leitz 2 only the processor chip is improved.

Although the device is manufactured by Leica, no Leica branding is used. Instead the Leitz logo is used on the back and also on the lens cap. The body of the device also passes the IP68 standard.

Unique to this year's model is the Golden Hour widget that shows the best time to take a shot when the sun is on the horizon as well as in-camera perspective assistance. As with Xiaomi devices, Leitz 3 owners can choose to use a number of special filters to take pictures as if they were a real Leica digital camera.

The selling price of the Leica Leitz Phone 3 has not been announced but it will be sold in Japan starting next April 19.
