Smartphone Production Up 7.6% In Q1 2024 With Samsung Back On Top




The year 2024 is predicted to be the year global smartphone production will recover after three years affected by the pandemic. IDC has released its latest report of smartphone production for Q1 2024 which supports this forecast. Overall smartphone production increased 7.6% compared to the same quarter last year.



Samsung returned to first place with a 20.8% share followed by Apple (17.3%), Xiaomi (14.1%), Transsion (9.9%) and Oppo (8.7%). Transsion recorded the highest increase of 84.9% followed by Xiaomi (33.8%). Samsung, Apple and Oppo all three recorded a decrease in production.


Transsion is very aggressive in marketing their devices in Malaysia under the Tecno and Infinix brands. They are also behind the Itel brand. Their smartphones in Malaysia are in the affordable category with basic class specifications. It may not be impressive in terms of specs but Transsion's strategy is clearly effective.
