WhatsApp Android Starts Supporting Face Scan Unlock – Limited To Pixel 8

Most Android apps that require additional security will only support fingerprint scanning. Just when the Pixel 4 was launched, Google tried to convince many developers to implement facial scanning on Android devices with a selfie camera and Soli sensor for security as an answer to Apple's Face ID. But it didn't work until this year.

Google managed to convince Meta to include the facial scan-based unlock feature on WhatsApp only with the Pixel 8 and Pixek 8 Pro. Although both of these Pixel 8's use a normal selfie camera only, the face unlock feature used is a combination of the Tensor G3 chip and machine learning. For now it is still uncertain if it will be expanded to other Android devices.

Also not sure if the face scan with the selfie camera + security chip + algorithm is safe enough for the long term? Can it be implemented in banking applications? Let's wait together.
