Another Submarine Will Be Used to Take Tourists to the Titanic

The Titanic submarine exploded last year killing seven tourists who wanted to visit the Titanic at the bottom of the Atlantic ocean. The design that uses carbon fiber causes the body of the Titan to swell under high pressure. Although the Titanic tragedy is still fresh in people's minds, now a new company wants to offer a tour package to the Titanic using a new submarine.

The Triton 4000/2 Abyssal Explorer submarine was designed by Patrick Lahey with the business receiving funding from Larry Connor, an American billionaire. The idea of building a new submarine that can take passengers to a depth of 3800 meters came shortly after the Titan tragedy. The cost of developing the Triton 4000/2 Abyssal Explorer reached $20 million (~RM94 million).

According to Connor, he wanted to prove that tourism to the Titanic is still safe and can be done repeatedly using a well-designed submarine. What makes the Triton 4000/2 Abyssal Explorer unique is that it has a plexiglass ball design that allows two passengers to see out.

The Titan and other mini-submarines that were used on the previous Titanic only had small glass windows. At this time the date when the Triton 4000/2 Abyssal Explorer's maiden voyage to the Titanic will take place has not yet been announced.
