Last year for the first time Apple overtook Samsung as the world's largest smartphone manufacturer with 234.6 million iPhones released. Samsung is second with 226.6 million. Many may not realize that 44 million of these total Samsung devices are manufactured by ODMs. ODM is used because it can reduce production costs and at the same time selling prices.
According to The Elec report, this year Samsung is targeting 67 million smartphones to be manufactured by ODM. Among the devices released by ODM is the Galaxy A03s which is sold at a very affordable price of RM559. Samsung has been using ODM services such as Wingtech since 2019.
The fact is for Samsung to compete with Chinese manufacturers, they need to offer devices at more competitive prices. ODMs operating in China and Vietnam are able to manufacture affordable devices with low production costs on behalf of Samsung. The result is that more and more similar dual-mode devices with comparable specifications differ only in the logo on the body.
