Instagram today introduced Teen Accounts, focusing on those under the age of 16, and ensuring a safe experience on the sharing platform.
Meta says these teen accounts come with extra protections – including in terms of who can connect and what content can be viewed. Instagram will also offer a new way to keep looking at new interests through the platform. Meta says users under teen accounts also need parental permission to change any settings.
All teen accounts will also be set to private, preventing unauthorized people from viewing content. Some other additional settings that are also included are notifications when reaching the 60-minute browsing time limit on the application, as well as sleep mode between 10pm and 7am which will turn off all notifications.
Meta stated that they will introduce these youth accounts in stages by country starting today. Users in Malaysia are expected to be able to test it around January 2025. Meta is also targeting the introduction of youth accounts for their other products in 2025.
