Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair, the company that developed the Palworld video game, for allegedly subscribing to their intellectual property. The suit was filed in Tokyo yesterday with the two companies also filing an injunction against infringement and seeking compensation and damages for infringement of their patents.
Since Palworld launched earlier this year, it has been one of the most played games on Steam. At the peak of its popularity, Palworld had over 2.1 million concurrent players, placing it behind PUBG Battlegrounds and Black Myth : Wukong as the most played game in Steam history.
After the launch, there were rumors that Pocketpair would be sued because the design of Palworld's fictional animal characters and game mechanics were very similar to Pokemon characters.
