Samsung's flagship devices under the latest Galaxy S and Galaxy Z series such as the S24 and Z Fold6 support up to 7 years of updates for both Android versions and security patches as well. Only Samsung and Google are able to offer updates during this time for their users. Recently, a new leaked entry-level Samsung device revealed up to 6 years of update support.
The device is a Galaxy A16 and it will support Android version updates and security patches for 6 years. No other Android device in the same class supports such an update. The device will use a 6.7-inch 90Hz SA Infinity-U screen, powered by an Exynos 1330 or Dimensity 6100+ chip depending on the country. It is also paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.
The device will also have IP54 water and dust protection. Other details like the camera and launch date are still in question. This is good news for users of basic mid-range devices because finally there are manufacturers supporting the old updates. This leaked device is the Galaxy A16 5G, last year's A15 5G was sold at a price of RM1199.
