Xbox Lays Off 650 More Employees

Xbox is shedding another 650 staff in a process to reorganize the business and ensure long-term success. The announcement comes just months after Xbox laid off 1,900 employees and closed several studios deemed unprofitable. Among the victims are Arkane Texas and Tango Gameworks.

Despite more and more staff being laid off, Xbox chief Phil Spencer says no games will be canceled and no more studios will close. After being allowed to proceed with the takeover of Activision Blizzard in October last year, many staff had to be fired to avoid duplication of work.

The year 2024 is not a very encouraging year for the video game industry as thousands of workers have been laid off due to sales not meeting targets, and the need to reduce the post-pandemic workforce.
