The Meta Orion smart glasses are perhaps one of the most surprising projects from Meta because they suddenly come with capabilities that are not just gimmicks. It is a more practical product when compared to the use of giant headsets such as the Vision Pro. According to a CNBC report, the Meta Orion will be offered to the public in two years.
This seems like a relatively short time to turn a prototype into a real product but the fact is that Orion has been developed for the past 10 years. The issue that still exists is the still thick frame of the glasses and the lens technology which we know is not friendly to the nearsighted. Orion screen technology places the Micro LED screen directly into the Orion lens.
In addition, Meta also wants to expand the use of the EMG brainwave control device used by Orion on other products such as Meta Quest. The EMG bracelet detects the electrical waves sent by the brain using the nerves. Users can control objects and perform body movement hand interactions or speak.
In a demo of Orion at the Meta Connect event, Mark Zuckerberg said Orion users can type text without looking like they're doing it because only the EMG bracelet exists.
