Details on the direction of the merger of two leading Japanese automakers, HONDA Motor Co. and Nissan Motor Co. are expected to be announced in mid-February. This was revealed by Reuters and Kyodo News on Friday, citing a Nissan company spokesperson. They previously said that they would disclose these details by the end of January 2025.
Discussions between the two parties are still ongoing to design a merger structure under a new parent company in 2026. In addition, the source also said that Honda urged Nissan, which is struggling with financial problems, to strengthen its restructuring efforts. Meanwhile, Mitsubishi Motors, which is a partner of Nissan, is reportedly considering not participating in this merger.
