The online pig slaughter scams have not only caused losses in terms of money but also the lives of individuals caught up in human trafficking. Myanmar has become the center of pig slaughter in Southeast Asia and yesterday Thailand took drastic measures to cut off electricity, internet and fuel supplies to the regions where the scams are located.
The affected areas are Myawaddy and Tachileik in Myanmar. The supply was cut after Thailand's Department of National Security gave the green light for it to be carried out. Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, Anutin Charnvirakul said the measures were taken to ensure that no citizens of the country fall victim to pig slaughter crimes committed in neighboring countries.
In Malaysia, the government has carried out various awareness campaigns on pig slaughter scams. Meanwhile, Meta has deleted more than 2 million accounts used by organized crime syndicates to find victims using social media platforms.
