At the MWC 2025 event today, Perplexity made a surprise announcement by announcing a collaboration with T-Mobile in the United States to develop a new device, called the “AI Phone”. This device is expected to arrive in 2026.
Perplexity is already known today as a provider of an artificial intelligence-powered search engine. They are also experimenting with various things involving artificial intelligence. Speaking about the announcement of this collaboration, Perplexity said that they are changing from just being a “question answering machine” to a “control machine”.
Using this AI phone, it can do a number of things on the user’s part, including searching, sending emails, sending messages, making calls, making reservations, setting appointments, and so on. Roughly speaking, it is seen as an AI phone that will integrate AI agents to make it easier for users to perform a number of tasks.
This AI phone to be developed is also expected to be equipped with other services such as Google Cloud AI, ElevenLabs and Picsart. In terms of control, a brief demo shown shows it accepting voice-based input, and then carrying out tasks in making reservations, etc.
With this development, let's all look forward to what Perplexity will jointly develop and bring to the market with T-Mobile. Since the collaboration is with T-Mobile, there is a possibility that we will not see this device offered outside the United States.
