PlayStation 5 Pro to Receive PSSR Update with FSR 4 Technology in 2026

PSSR or PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution is a resolution upscaling technology used on the Sony PlayStation 5 console to enable it to run video games at 4K resolution.

Mark Cerny, Chief Architect at PlayStation has said that soon, their latest console, the Sony PlayStation 5 Pro will receive an update to this PSSR feature with the help of AMD's resolution upscaling technology, namely AMD FSR 4.

He said that the PlayStation 5 Pro console comes with enough power to process frames using this HSR 4 technology, and it is now seen as a necessity due to the high graphics requirements present in games being launched now and in the future. It is expected that this update will be introduced for the PlayStation 5 Pro console in 2026.

For now, he hopes that more PlayStation video games will take advantage of the existing PSSR feature, while the latest update is being developed. This FSR 4 support was developed as part of the Project Amethyst collaboration with AMD, where Sony is not only seen developing Super Resolution technology, but also optimizations for other graphics features such as Ray-Tracing and so on.
