I realize that many people still don’t like Gemini on Android devices because it’s a bit more cumbersome than Google Assistant. Especially in controlling Internet of Things devices and asking Gemini to control or access other services. These other services are called plugins and Google recently changed their name.
It’s now called just an application. This means that every time you call and ask Gemini to do something, it no longer accesses your plugin but continues to access the application. This is probably a good thing because it doesn’t confuse users who are not familiar with how Gemini works. Gemini actually accesses applications that are already installed from within the user. Users just need to activate it.
There are no changes to the usage, only the name and display in the Gemini application. However, if it is already called an application – hopefully Google will expand its support so that Gemini can function as Google Assistant to call and open any application on the device.
