Qualcomm launched its latest X85 modem at MWC Barcelona this week. The modem is capable of providing download speeds of up to 12.5 Gbps and upload speeds of up to 3.7 Gbps. This is faster than the X80 modem which offered 10 Gbps download and 3.5 Gbps upload. The X80 modem is currently used in devices using the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip.
The Qualcomm X85 is designed for smartphones, PCs, vehicles and various other mobile devices that want to support 5G Advanced networks and satellite communications. The modem is also equipped with its own artificial intelligence (AI) processor with tensor drivers that allow for increased network control on devices using it. In addition, it also reduces latency and power consumption.
Among the telecommunications companies that have tested the X85 are China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, Google, KDDI, NTT DOCOMO, T-Mobile, and Verizon.
