Elon Musk Says Grok 3.5 Can Answer Technical Questions Using “Reasoning Models”

When it comes to how artificial intelligence (AI) language models learn information, it’s typically done by the system using services and data gathered from the internet, with millions of websites, social media platforms, and so on to get this information.

Elon Musk said that the beta version of Grok 3.5 will be introduced next week to SuperGrok customers where they can not only access the latest version of Grok AI, but also start asking it technical questions that are usually quite difficult for other AI services to answer.

Elon Musk said that when it launches, Grok 3.5 will be able to answer technical questions on topics such as electrochemistry, rocket science, and so on. It will use a “reasoning model” or reasoning model where it will give users information that is processed on its own based on the LLM’s understanding of the information it already has.

This is different from the way existing AI models use information that is obtained without “understanding” the context of the question asked and the answer given. Interestingly, DeepSeek R1 also uses the reasoning model that Grok 3.5 will use later, and when it successfully provides reasonable answers that also match the context of the given question, it has been hailed as an AI technology that does not necessarily require large investments to build an efficient LLM.

However, the biggest issue with using reasoning models for AI services is that the information produced is still likely to have errors, and for more technical questions, as advocated by Elon Musk, it is more difficult to prove whether it is accurate or not because of the research that needs to be done to ensure if the information provided by the AI service is accurate or not.

Elon Musk also said that since this reasoning model will create its own answers, the processing power required to answer these technical questions is higher, and therefore, xAI is seen wanting to build a data center with one million AI processing chips to realize the construction of the most powerful AI technology in the world.

Grok 3.5 is expected to be launched next week for SuperGrok customers, but it is currently unknown when it will be introduced for general use.
