Android 16 Available for Download Today, But Without Material 3 Expressive

As announced yesterday, the final stable version of Android 16 is available for download on select Pixel devices. The update we received on the Pixel 9 Pro XL shows a 392 MB update size and replaces the Beta version that was previously used.

Although the final version of Android 16 is available for use today, it does not come with two new features that are expected, namely the Material 3 Expressive interface and the desktop mode that were shown previously. On our device, the Android 16 interface is still the same as Android 15. According to a report by Android Authrority, Android 16 QPR1 will be given on September 3rd bringing both these new features.

This means that the Pixel 10 series will also be launched on that date, becoming the first devices to use Material 3 Expressive and desktop mode. Material 3 Expressive brings an interface that looks more cheerful, interactive, and easy to understand. This is different from the steps taken by Apple in iOS 26 which brought back the glass design that had been discontinued since iOS 7.
