Anthropic is best known as the company that produced the Claude artificial intelligence (AI) model, which was founded by former OpenAI employees. After offering the model for public use, Anthropic also launched the Claude Gov model, which was developed specifically for use by the US government.
The model was developed specifically for use in government operations such as strategic planning, operational support and intelligence analysis. According to Anthropic, Claude Gov has already been used by several agencies at the highest levels of US national security with access to it limited to those operating in environments requiring classified information.
Claude Gov differs from other models in that it handles classified information better, has a deeper understanding of documents in the context of intelligence and defense, and enhanced skills in languages and dialects important for national security operations.
The use of artificial intelligence in the military is a hot issue that has caused employees of technology companies to openly protest. Microsoft and Google have fired several employees who openly criticized the company's involvement in conflicts such as the one that occurred in Gaza, for example.
Meta also recently partnered with Anduril to use AI for its XR EagleEye headset for infantry use. The reality is that AI technology is evolving and government contracts are too lucrative to ignore.
