Just mention M in the BMW series, surely everyone will know that this series is the most powerful and high-performance series in BMW's offerings, both cars and motorcycles. Today, BMW Malaysia has introduced the latest BMW M5, powered by a combination of a petrol engine and an electric motor, and offers hybrid drive with power up to 1000 Nm of torque.
The BMW M5 is the first car in the saloon-sized M series to feature a Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) system and has a charging plug to charge the battery, and the battery can also be recharged through the use of the petrol engine. This hybrid drive system is a combination of the M TwinPower Turbo 4.4L V8 petrol engine that produces 430kW / 585 hp and the BMW eDrive electric motor that produces 145 kW / 197 hp.
These two make a maximum power of around 727 hp and torque of 1000 Nm, allowing acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, or 0-200 km/h in 10.9 seconds and a maximum speed of 250 km/h.
As a PHEV hybrid car, users can charge the car's battery which provides an 11 kW AC charging socket, allowing a full charge of the 18.6 kWh battery in 3 hours and 15 minutes. On a full charge, it can provide a fully electric driving range of 69KM WLTP. The driver is free to choose whether to activate full hybrid driving using the M Hybrid button located near the control dial in the center and select ELECTRIC mode.
This BMW M5 is also loaded with various exterior and interior designs and functions that highlight performance and luxury features. The front is equipped with Adaptive LED lights and the BMW air intakes popularly called the 'kidney grill' also have LED lights that decorate it both day and night.
The interior design is complete with a 12.3-inch instrument display and a 14.9-inch infotainment display, powered by BMW OS 8.5 and Live Cockpit Professional. In terms of comfort, it also includes seats with two-tone Merino leather trim, carbon fiber trim, wireless charging for smartphones, 18 Bowers & Wilkins speakers and much more.
The BMW M5 is available in 8 exterior colors with 4 interior color choices. It will be sold at a price of RM 1,188,800.
