Chinese Scientists Introduce Mosquito-Sized Drones for Intelligence Purposes

Among the technology sectors that are seen to be growing rapidly is drone technology, which is used for various purposes, in terms of recording, logistics, military and so on. Typically, drones come in various sizes depending on the needs and use, and in the future, we may see them used for intelligence purposes.

Recently, a group of robotics scientists from the National University of Defense Technology (NUDT) from Hunan, China reportedly developed a drone that comes the size of a mosquito for military and intelligence purposes.

One of the scientists, Liang Hexiang who is also a student at the university, showed off this drone that comes with two similar, but different designs. The first drone comes with two wings, while the other comes with four, like a real mosquito.

The drone with four wings can be controlled via a mobile application installed on a smart device. The components installed in this mosquito-sized drone are still secret, and they do not explain what data can be collected through this drone and also how long the power supply contained in such equipment can last.

Although it is “marketed” as an intelligence and information gathering tool, in theory such drones can also be used in other ways such as search and rescue operations for trapped individuals and so on.

This drone is still in the research phase, and at the moment it is not known what the Chinese government’s plans, especially their military, are in using these drones.
