Counterpoint – MediaTek Dominates Global Smartphone Chip Market In Q1 2025

The global smartphone processor chip market report in Q1 2025 shows that MediaTek holds 36% of the market share. This increase was driven by high demand for entry-level and mid-range chips, especially the Dimensity 8400 chip. However, shipments of chips in the flagship category recorded a slight decline.

Meanwhile, Qualcomm recorded a market share of 28%. Its performance remained stable due to its strength in the high-performance chip segment, especially through the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. This chip is also used exclusively in the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, helping Qualcomm maintain a strong position in the market.

Apple is in third place with a market share of 17%. This increase was driven by the launch of the iPhone 16e using the A18 chip. However, Apple’s performance recorded a slight decline quarter-on-quarter due to seasonal factors common in the industry.

UNISOC recorded a market share of 10%. Despite a decline in chip shipments due to declining demand for LTE chips, the company still managed to maintain a strong position in the sub-US$99 (~RM420) budget smartphone segment.

Samsung recorded a market share of 5%. This increase was contributed by the launch of models such as the Galaxy A56 with the Exynos 1580 chip and the Galaxy A16 5G equipped with the Exynos 1330 chip. In addition, shipments of the Exynos 1380 chip also increased due to high demand for the Galaxy A26 series.

Finally, Huawei with HiSilicon chips recorded a market share of 4%. Despite a decline in chip shipments compared to the previous quarter, the company maintained a stable performance. This success was contributed by the strong support of loyal users in China and the launch of the Nova 13 model with the Kirin 8010 chip and the Mate 70 equipped with the Kirin 9020 chip.
