Five European Carmakers Drop Support for Apple CarPlay Ultra

CarPlay Ultra was announced this year as the next evolution of the CarPlay system supported on iPhones. It will transform all screens in a vehicle to use the CarPlay interface. Now, the Financial Times reports that Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volvo, Polestar, and Renault will drop their previously promised CarPlay Ultra support.

The five companies are among 13 companies that said they would support the new CarPlay interface when it was announced in 2022. So far, only Aston Martin has confirmed that it will support CarPlay Ultra this year for customers in the United States and Canada.

According to a report by Car and Driver, only Audi has confirmed that it will not support CarPlay Ultra. Mercedes-Benz has not denied or confirmed this report, saying that it has just launched the MB.OS operating system on its CLA model but remains committed to supporting Car Play.

It is still unknown whether Land Rover, Porsche, Nissan, Ford, Lincoln, Jaguar, Acura, Honda, and Infinity will continue with their plans to support CarPlay Ultra. Porsche has supported their mock-up images before.
