macOS Tahoe 26 is the latest version of Apple's computer operating system, announced early this morning. As is the case every year, the introduction of a new operating system means that support for some older computer models will no longer be provided. Apple has confirmed that macOS Tahoe 26 is the last operating system to support Macs with Intel chips.
After this, macOS 27 will only support Macs with Apple Silicon. This is not surprising since Apple itself has stopped selling Macs with Intel chips for several years now.
The different operating system and processing requirements mean that Macs with Intel chips will no longer receive new versions. But as with all of their hardware, Apple will still provide regular security patch updates.
Here is a list of Macs that macOS Tahoe 26 will support.
MacBook Air with Apple silicon (2020 and later)
MacBook Pro with Apple silicon (2020 and later)
MacBook Pro (16″, 2019)
MacBook Pro (13″, 2020, 4x Thunderbolt ports)
iMac (2020 and later)
Mac mini (2020 and later)
Mac Studio (2022 and later)
Mac Pro (2019 and later)
