Micron is one of the few memory companies still producing DDR4 memory chips, but that seems to be coming to an end as they have issued a notice to customers stating that production of the chips will be reduced over the next 6-9 months, after which they will stop producing the memory.
This is not surprising, especially when other memory manufacturers such as Samsung and SK Hynix have also announced that they will or have already stopped producing DDR4 memory to focus on the production of newer memory such as DDR5, HBM and others.
Due to this, DDR4 memory is expected to increase towards the end of this year as the supply for the memory will decrease, and is expected to become more expensive than DDR5 soon.
Although DDR5 memory has now begun to be widely used in the computing industry such as consumer computers, servers and data centers, DDR4 memory is still used in other industries such as manufacturing, automotive, digital networking and others that are more concerned with data transmission stability than speed alone.
It is expected that all DDR4 memory manufacturers will stop producing this memory around the end of this year to mid-2026. DDR5 memory will be used more widely, and only a few specific industries will continue to use DDR4 memory in the future.
