A former commercial support officer in Astro's business division was charged in court today with altering the accounts of 743 of the company's customers to provide them with free access to the service. Nora Idayu Jaafar (48) was charged with altering the broadcasting company's customer data system without permission under Section 5(1) of the Computer Crimes Act 1997.
If found guilty, the accused could be fined a maximum of RM100,000, jailed for up to seven years, or both. Astro's customer database was altered by her between 2013 and 2020.
The trial, however, had to be adjourned because the accused collapsed after the 30th charge was read out against him. Judge Norma Ismail adjourned the proceedings to June 26 to allow the accused to receive medical treatment and rest. Bail was set at RM10,000 for all charges.
