It’s no secret that the launch of the new Siri powered by Apple Intelligence has been plagued by various issues. It has been delayed for a year with reports of new Siri performance failing to meet Apple’s standards. In a Bloomberg report this morning, Apple is reportedly likely to use Anthropic’s Claude AI model or OpenAI’s ChatGPT to power Siri.
In internal tests using both models and Apple’s Private Cloud Compute system, Claude was found to be the most compatible with Siri. Apple and Anthropic are reportedly in talks with Anthropic seeking a multi-billion dollar annual fee that will continue to grow. This is why the talks with OpenAI are also being held as a backup.
The new Siri powered by Apple Intelligence will only launch next year after iOS 26. Among smartphone manufacturers, Apple is the only major company that has yet to offer a wide range of AI features on its devices.
