Automattic previously acquired Tumblr from Yahoo!, and subsequently aimed to use the WordPress system to power it – making it easier for them to develop and manage Tumblr. However, now Automattic shared that they are delaying that intention for now.
Matt Mullenweg, CEO of Automattic, said that for now they are focusing more on some of the features that users want. The transition to WordPress is seen as an infrastructure transition, which will take longer. It is not known whether the process of transitioning Tumblr to WordPress will be implemented or not, and how long it will take before Automattic focuses on the transition.
Through the same podcast, Matt Mullenweg also shared that Tumblr is still not generating profit at the moment.
