ITC Finds Insta360 Infringes GoPro Camera Technology Patents

Last year, GoPro, a US action camera maker, reported to the International Trade Commission (ITC) that Insta360, another action camera maker, infringed on its imaging technology patents, specifically for its SuperView, virtual lens, HyperSmooth and Horizon Leveling technologies.

These are imaging technologies used in the GoPro Hero action camera device, as well as the GoPro Max 360 360-degree camera. The ITC recently announced a preliminary determination that Insta360 not only infringed the patents in question, but also infringed on the GoPro HERO device design patent, possibly through the Insta360 Ace 2 camera.

Insta360 also issued a statement regarding the announcement, saying that the ruling was too heavy in favor of GoPro, especially since the technology in question is something that has already been demonstrated in many other action cameras.

However, since this announcement is a preliminary finding, Insta360 products can still be sold in the US market for now. GoPro said the final findings will be presented to the ITC on November 10, 2025, where they will also make a decision regarding the sale of Insta360 products in the US.
